Not sure what to do next in your career or life?

If you are feeling uncertain about your next step, whether as a student, graduate, or working professional, you are not alone.
Many people today are not lacking options. They are lacking clarity.

You may be experiencing something like this:

>    You have completed your studies, but are unsure what to do next
>    You are working, but something does not feel right
>    You feel there are too many options, and no clear way to choose
>    You are preparing for something, but not fully convinced about it
>    You are doing what others expect, but unsure if it is right for you

These are not signs of failure. They are often signs that you have reached a point where you need clarity, not mere information.
Our Center is designed to help you think more clearly about your direction.

Understanding the Kolkata Context

Kolkata is a city where many students and professionals grow up with strong academic foundations. But at the same time, the exposure to diverse career pathways is often limited compared to larger metros like Bangalore, Mumbai, or Delhi.

As a result:

>    decisions are often influenced by familiarity rather than exploration
>    certain paths (government jobs, traditional careers) become default choices
>    alternative possibilities remain unexplored
>    financial and social considerations shape decisions early

This is where the need for a more thoughtful approach becomes important. While many forms of guidance today are available online, certain conversations benefit from a more focused, in-person setting. Being based in Kolkata allows for deeper engagement without digital distractions. At the same time, online sessions remain available for those who prefer flexibility.

Our Approach

Common Situations We Address

In today’s world, shaped by AI-driven transformation, our careers are evolving faster than ever before. The boundaries between industries are blurring, new skills are emerging every day, and traditional roles are being reshaped by technology. In such a dynamic environment, career choices can no longer be made in isolation or based only on what seems practical at the moment.

Many students and professionals today find themselves asking questions like:

  • I am confused after graduation, what should I do?

  • I have a job, but I don’t feel satisfied. What next?

  • There are too many options. How do I choose?

  • How do I plan my future in an uncertain world?

  • These questions rarely have a single, ready-made answer. They usually require a more thoughtful process, one that helps you reflect, explore, and gradually arrive at clarity.

How the Process Works

This process typically begins with a one-to-one discussion. It is not an advisory session, but a structured conversation to understand your situation, concerns, and possibilities.
Our methodology is inspired by a Life Design framework from Stanford University, adapted to individual context. It typically involves:

  • understanding your current situation, strengths, and concerns

  • reflecting on different aspects of life, not just career

  • exploring multiple possible directions instead of searching for a single “right” answer

  • testing ideas gradually through small, real-world steps

This approach helps you move from confusion to clarity, not by forcing a decision, but by designing your way forward. The entire process is guided by Prof. (Dr.) Somprakash Bandyopadhyay, Founder-Director of the Centre, with over 40 years of experience across academia and industry, including IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bombay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Career and Life Design Counselling?

Career and Life Design Counselling helps you move beyond choosing a job or course. It focuses on understanding your strengths, values, and aspirations so that your career decisions align with your broader life direction.

Q. How is this different from regular career counselling?

Traditional career counselling focuses mainly on options like courses or jobs. This approach helps you think more deeply about your life, your direction, and how your career fits into that larger picture.

Q. Do you offer in-person sessions in Kolkata?

Yes. One-to-one in-person sessions are available in Kolkata (near Ruby Hospital / E.M. Bypass), along with online sessions if you prefer.

Q. I am confused after graduation. What should I do?

This is very common. Instead of rushing into a decision, it helps to step back and understand your strengths, interests, and possible paths through a structured process of reflection.

Q. I have a job but I am not satisfied. What next?

Dissatisfaction often indicates a deeper need for clarity. Rather than making impulsive changes, it helps to reflect on your direction and explore alternatives thoughtfully.

Q. There are too many options. How do I choose?

The challenge is not just choosing the “best” option, but identifying what fits you. A structured approach helps you compare possibilities meaningfully and reduce confusion.

Q. Is this useful in today’s AI-driven, uncertain career landscape?

Yes. In a rapidly changing world, fixed career paths are becoming less reliable. What matters more is clarity, adaptability, and the ability to rethink and redesign your path over time.

Q. How do I get started?

If you are unsure about your direction, the best way to begin is with a thoughtful one-to-one discussion.
